The best foliage is seen in Vermont. Woodstock offers the beauty of the foliage, and the fun of festivals, fairs and celebrations throughout September and October.

Foliage time means fleece jackets, apple picking and hot cider. The town of Woodstock, Vermont, known as the quintessential New England town, offers its residents and visitors from afar a glorious display of fall foliage in addition to a season full of fun filled activities for all. Located approximately 2 ½ hours from Boston, and 4 ½ hours from New York and Fairfield County, Ct., Woodstock, is the Shire Town of Windsor County.

Things to do in Woodstock in September

On September 23rd and every Wednesday until October 7th, the village hosts Market on the Green. Local farmers from Windsor, Windham, Orange and Rutland counties set up their booths and offer fresh vegetables, pastas, homemade preserves and other fare for purchase.

The Vermont Fine Furniture and Woodworking Festival starts on September 26th and runs through the 27th and will be held at the Union Arena on Rte 4 in Woodstock. Hand crafted furniture, demonstrations and nature walks are all part of the festival, which is sponsored by March-Billings–Rockefeller National Historical Park. The Billings Farm, an operating dairy farm with a restored 1890 Farm house, is also located in Woodstock across from the National Park. Billings Farm offers daily activities for children and adults alike daily from 10:00-5:00 through October.

Things to do in Woodstock in October

A chili cook-off will be held on October 3rd on the Village Green. Proceeds will benefit the Woodstock Teen Center. Chili not to your liking? How about apples and pumpkins? On October 3-4th the annual Apple and Pumpkin Celebration will be held at the Billings Farm and Museum. Educational programs about the apple and the pumpkin, cooking demonstrations and horse drawn wagon rides make for a genuine fall experience.

Just a week later the Harvest Fair, the annual celebration of Vermont, will also take place at Billings on October 10 and 11th. A Barn Dance and several hands-on activities such as cider pressing and harvesting vegetables will be included in the Fair. Spiced cider and handmade donuts will be served.

The Woodstock Historical Society will present Reading Places: Art, Architecture, and Gravestones in Early Vermont. How early Vermont settlers created such things as art work, pottery and textiles, and how those things reflect who those people were, will be discussed by William Hosley. The event is sponsored by the Vermont Humanities Society. Contact the Woodstock Historical society for more information at 802-457-1822.

Wagon Ride Weekend at the Billings Farm is on October 17th and 18th. The narrated ride takes visitors through the fields of the farm and along the Ottauquechee River.

Fall Festivities Abound in Woodstock, Vermont

There no place like New England in the fall. The beautiful foliage of Vermont which begins in late September and goes through mid-October offers visitors a natural draw to enjoy the region and all it has to offer in the classically New England village of Woodstock, Vermont.
